Kochi City is such a place!

Tosaden Traffic streetcars which run north, south, east and west centered Harimayabashi in Kochi City is the oldest streetcars in existence in Japan and boast the longest route in Japan at 25.3 km. Harimayabashi is the only place in Japan where railroad tracks cross each other at right angles among diamond crossings (flat crossings) which are diagonal or right-angled crossings and where streetcars cross each other. You can see a very rare sight.

Kochi Castle (get off at the Kochijo mae), which is touted as "the most famous castle on the Nankaido" because of its elegant appearance, is one of the "12 existing castle towers" and is also known as "Takajo". Kochi Castle was built by Yamanouchi Kazutoyo from 1601 to 10 years. Kochi Castle was once destroyed by a large fire, but almost all of it was rebuilt in 1753. It is the only building in Japan where the entire Honmaru structure, including the castle tower and palace has survived from the Edo period. The observation lobby on the top floor of the Kochi Castle History Museum, located right next to the entrance to Kochi Castle is a good place to take pictures of the existing castle tower and Otemon Gate in a single photo.

Hirome Market (get off at the Ohashidori) at the western end of the Obiya-machi Arcade in the center of Kochi City is a street food village style shopping street. There are about 40 restaurants in various Japanese, Western and Chinese styles including local cuisine and about 20 retail stores such as souvenir shops and clothing stores. There is an eating space where you can eat the food purchased at each store. You can enjoy Kochi's famous Katsuo no Tataki (Seared Bonito) and Dorome (fry of fish from the sardine family) which you can hardly taste outside of Kochi prefecture with sake.

Wanpark Kochi (get off at the Sambashidori 5-chome) on the Kochi City Pier is a city park adjacent to Kochi Port and centered on a pond into which a huge artificial waterfall flows. It has an area of 4.5 hectares and is made up of Animal Land, Playland, restaurant, water stage, garden plaza, waterside walk plaza and so on. At the same time as the opening of the attached Animal Land in 1993, the Kochi Municipal Zoo which was located in Kochi Castle has moved to the park and 571 animals of 100 species (as of the end of March 2020) are breeding.

At Katsurahama Beach (get off at Katsurahama bus stop), one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Kochi, a huge 13.4-meter-high statue of Ryoma Sakamoto, including the pedestal, stands watching over the Pacific Ocean. Other tourist facilities include the Katsurahama Aquarium and the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum. Visitors can also enjoy strolling along the five-colored sand beach.

In addition to Kochi Castle, there are many historical facilities in Kochi City, such as the Kochi Literary Museum (get off at the Kochijo mae) and the Kochi Yosakoi Joho koryukan (get off at the Harimayabashi). Please use 1-day ticket/the 24-hour ticket and enjoy Kochi City, which is full of historical and culinary attractions.
