Shodoshima is such a place!

Shodoshima is a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea, Kagawa Prefecture, blessed with calm seas and a mild climate, and has long been visited by many people as a tourist destination.
Recently, it has become a popular destination, particularly among women and young people, as it is famous as a filming location for movies, TV dramas, and animations, and there are many photogenic spots to visit.
The Setouchi Triennale, a triennale of contemporary art held every three years, and the 2024 Silver Award in the Green Destinations Awards, an international certification given to sustainable tourism destinations, have also attracted much attention from abroad.
And Shodoshima is famous as the birthplace of the first olive cultivation in Japan. The Roadside Station Shodoshima Olive Park (get off at Olivekouen Guchi) has olive groves on a small hill overlooking the sea, a white windmill reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea, and a general store that preserves the set from the movie KiKi's Delivery Service, among many other photogenic spots! At the adjacent roadside station, visitors can enjoy olive and herb souvenirs and a day spa.
Angel Road (get off at Kokusaihotel(Angelload Mae)) is a rare sand road that appears only twice a day only at low tide. It is said that crossing it with a loved one will make your wishes come true, making it a popular spot known as a lover’s sanctuary.
Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Studio (get off at Tanoura Eigamura), where you can enjoy plenty of Showa-era nostalgia, is also a must-visit place. The set from the movie adaptation of the novel Twenty-Four Eyes by Sakae Tsuboi, a writer from Shodoshima, is still intact, so you may be able to go back in time to the world of the novel! Depending on the season, fields of rape blossoms, sunflowers, and cosmos are painstakingly created by the staff and spread throughout the village.
In addition, the Shodoshima 88 Temple Pilgrimage, which tours the sacred sites of Shodoshima, known as Shima Shikoku, takes about one-tenth the time of the Shikoku 88 temples pilgrimage, making it a perfect activity for beginners on a pilgrimage. This is recommended for those who want to enjoy Shodoshima to the fullest, including mountain sacred sites overlooking spectacular scenery and halls built on the edge of the sea.
Why not visit Shodoshima, an island of charm filled with nature, food, art, and more, while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea and the laid-back atmosphere of the island? You'll definitely want to visit again and again!
